After careful needs assessment and site evaluation, a new hillside structure was planned where an old shed once stood, along the historic ridge road featuring panoramic views of the oak savannah. The house is a simple linear structure retaining the hill and featuring a folded roof element supported by an elegant box frame. A modest sized, efficient home design that addresses all the project goals to age in place, host guests, benefit from the orientation on the site and extend the living space into the natural landscape.
The developed design features a cantilevered interior walnut and steel stair extending from a thermal architectural concrete design element. The Douglas fir wood clad structural frame and folding roof form materialize into exposed steel structure on the north side of the home.
The blackened steel detailing is seen though out the home; at the kitchen island, stove, railings and wood burning fireplace. The window shapes emphasize the geometric folded roof form. The numerous windows and folding patio doors invite the outdoors in; allowing optimal air flow, natural lighting and outstanding views of the restored oak savannah surrounding the home.
